One of the best way to make children understand themselves and to stay positive is by including Shlokas in their daily routine. Chanting Shlokas have numerous benefits not only to kids but also to elders. Shlokas play a very important role in learning good values , to increase concentration and memory power and many more.
Here are some Best Shlokas for kids to learn and to include in their daily routine.
1. Morning Prayer
In Sanskrit:
कराग्रे वसते लक्ष्मिः करमध्ये सरस्वति ।
करमूले तु गोविन्दःप्रभाते करदर्शनम् ॥
In English :
Karagre Vasate Lakshmi, Karamadhye Saraswati |
Karmule tu Govindah, Prabhate Kardarshanam ||
Meaning :
At the top of the hand resides Goddess Laxmi and in the middle of the hand resides goddess Saraswati. At the base of the hand resides Lord Govind. Hence one should look at the hand in the early morning
This shloka holds both spiritual and material meaning. We pray to Goddess Laxmi for wealth. We pray to Goddess Saraswati for Knowledge and we pray to Lord Govind for health. All three are needed for a healthy life. The basic idea of palm philosophy is that we believe in our karma. We pray to God to help us do good deeds that can bring wealth, happiness, and knowledge in our life. We should be no bad work with our hands and our hands should always move forward to help others.
2. Shanti Mantra
i) In Sanskrit:
ॐ असतो मा सद् गमय |
तमसो मा ज्योतिर् गमय |
मृत्योर् माम्रतं गमय |
ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ||
In English :
Asatoma sad gamaya
Tamaso ma jyotir gamaya
Mrityor ma amritam gamaya
Om shanti, shanti, shanti hi ||
Meaning :
This mantra encourages the practitioner to leave the pain of ignorance, darkness and death of this world and reside in the celestial realms of knowledge, light and immortality.
ii) In Sanskrit :
ॐ सर्वेषां स्वस्तिर्भवतु ।सर्वेषां शान्तिर्भवतु ।
सर्वेषां पूर्णंभवतु । सर्वेषां मङ्गलंभवतु ।
ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥
In English :
Om Sarveshaam swastir bhavatu , Sarveshaam shantir bhavatu
Sarveshaam poornam bhavatu, Sarveshaam mangalam bhavatu
Om shanti shanti shanti hi ||
Meaning :
May there be Well-Being in All, may there be peace in everyone’s life ,may there be Fulfilment in All and
May there be Auspiciousness in All. Om Peace, Peace, Peace.
3. Gayatri Mantra
In Sanskrit :
ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः
तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं
भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि
धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ॥
In English :
Om bhur bhuva swaha
Tat savitur varenyam
Bhargo devasya dhimahi
Dhiyo yo nah prachodayat
Meaning :
We worship Lord Sun, the Lord who is superior in all three worlds. This lord is a store of knowledge and he is the removal of sins and ignorance. May he enlighten us and take us on the path of truth.
Gayatri Mantra is one of the most powerful mantra. It is believed that even Gods chant this mantra. Chanting this mantra can result in amazing benefits especially on the kid’s intelligence.
4. Ganesha Shloka
In Sanskrit :
वक्रतुण्ड महाकाय सूर्यकोटि समप्रभ।
निर्विघ्नं कुरु मे देव सर्वकार्येषु सर्वदा॥
In English :
Vakratunda Mahakaya Surya Koti Samaprabha |
Nirvighnam Kuru Me Deva Sarva Kaaryeshu Sarvadaa ||
Meaning :
O Lord with a curved trunk and huge body, and the brilliance of a million suns, I seek your blessings to grace my new beginning and remove all the obstacles as I begin to work.
This mantra give the chanter the blessings from Lord Ganesha to clear his obstacles, and find a new way to his life. We should chant this before starting any work to happen it in a smooth way.
5. Food Prayer
In Sanskrit :
अन्नपूर्णे सदापूर्णे शंकर प्राणवल्लभे |
ज्ञान वैराग्य सिद्ध्यर्थं भिक्षां देहि च पार्वति ||
In English :
Annapoorne Sadaa Poorne ,Shankara Praanavallabhe |
Gyaana Vairaagya Sidyartham ,Bhikshaam Dehi Cha Parvati||
Meaning :
O Annapurna, the provider of nourishment and fulfillment, consort of Lord Shankar (Shiva), grant me alms, and bless me with wisdom and detachment.
The Annapurna mantra is a Sanskrit mantra that is dedicated to the Hindu goddess Annapurna, who is considered the goddess of food and nourishment. The mantra is often recited before meals or during times of scarcity to seek the blessings of the goddess and to express gratitude for the abundance of food and sustenance.
6. Guru Mantra
In Sanskrit :
गुरू ब्रह्मा गुरू विष्णु, गुरु देवो महेश्वर |
गुरु साक्षात परब्रह्म, तस्मै श्री गुरुवे नमः ||
In English :
Gurur brahmah gurur vishnu
Gurur devo maheshwaraha
Gurur saakshaat param brahmah
Tasmai shree guravey namaha
Meaning :
The guru is the living representative of the Holy Trinity in Hinduism – Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Shiva. The teacher is the representative of the Supreme Being. He gives me knowledge and destroys ignorance. I salute such a guru.
In student’s life, Guru plays major role , as he is creator, generally not birth giver, but knowledge giver, which is as important as life. He / she is also maintainer because he or she is direct or indirect source of that solutions which are remedies for pains in life. He is also a destroyer of darkness in the life of student.
7. Shloka To Chant Before Starting Our Lessons
In Sanskrit :
सरस्वति नमस्तुभ्यं वरदे कामरूपिणि ।
विद्यारम्भं करिष्यामि सिद्धिर्भवतु मे सदा ॥
In English :
Saraswati Namastubhyam Varade Kamarupiṇi |
Vidyarambham Kariṣhyami, Siddhirbhavatu me sada ||
Meaning :
O goddess Saraswathi, salutations to you, O Giver of boons, O fulfiller of wishes,
I am going to start studies (i.e. start my process of getting knowledge) , may success be mine, always.
We Should chant this shloka before start our lessons. This shloka is chanted in many schools in India. Through this shloka, the kids pray to Goddess Saraswati (one who is the giver of knowledge and wisdom) to always bestow upon them (kids) the capacity of right understanding. So that all the learning may resolve into knowledge.
8. Sleeping Mantra
In Sanskrit :
या देवी सर्वभूतेषु निद्रारूपेण संस्थिता ।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमोनमः ।।
In English :
Ya Devi Sarva Bhuteshu Nidra Roopen Samsithaha I
Namastasyai Namastasyai Namastasyai Namo Namah II
Meaning :
O Goddess , you are omnipresent. You also exist in sleep.
I bow to you. I pay salutation to you thrice. You are the one who is present in all living beings in the form of Sleep .
Often when our kids find it difficult to sleep, we as parents ask them to count sheep in mind. This is when sleep shloka can help. But i feel this is more powerful.
Kids have so many thought processes going on in their mind, making it difficult for them to fall asleep. This shloka helps in getting fast and sound sleep. This shloka is dedicated to the goddess Durga. Ask the kid, to take a few deep breaths before chanting the shloka, and then ask them to start reciting the shloka in mind. Once the rhythm set in. The shloka works miraculously and we fall asleep within few minutes.
